Zonal (Earth Sciences)

In geography, geophysics, and meteorology, zonal usually means "along a latitude circle", i.e. "in the east-west direction". In atmospheric sciences the zonal coordinate (latitude) is denoted by x, and the zonal wind speed by u. :See also: Meridional
