ZiraZira is the female villain in the Disney movie the sequel to The Lion King. She was Scar's mate and with him had two children, Nuka the elder and the younger one Vitani. Her third child, Kovu did not have Scar as a father. Also at the start of The Lion King II, we learn that Zira, her three children, and some other lionesses had been banished to a desert like area known as the Outlands. Zira mentions that Kovu was the last born before they were exiled. So the father of Kovu is unknown and when the Outlanders were exiled is unknown. Kovu becomes affectionate with Simba's daughter Kiara (the lion cub at the end of the original The Lion King though originally scripted to be a boy was changed to a girl) after the two cubs escape crocodiles on the Outland borders. Zira plots to train Kovu so he can easily kill Simba at the right moment. Then she was to have Kovu save Kiara from a fire (of Nuka and Vitani's own making) so he could get closer to Kiara so he would get closer to Simba. Then when Simba was alone Kovu would kill him. The plan starts well but Kiara and Kovu end up being soul mates and thus the plan goes wrong. Zira in the area where there had been the fire ambushed Simba trying making him believe Kovu had lured him there. Simba is knocked into the canyon where the stampede was in the last movie. He climbs out on a dam and accidentaly dislodges a few logs that fall and crush Nuka. Zira blames the death of Nuka on Kovu and gives her son the same scar that Scar had. When Kovu tries to return to the Pride Lands he is somewhat forcefully exiled much to Kiara's dismay. Zira now makes open war on Simba. Simba and Zira are about to kill each other when Kiara and Kovu intervene and stop the battle, convincing the Outlanders and the Pride Landers they are one. Zira leaps on Kiara and the two tumble into the canyon. Kiara lands on a ledge but Zira falls and hangs on to the cliff edge. Kiara tries to rescue her but Zira rejects help. She is about to take the help when she slips and falls into the river that had broken through the dam.
