Zinc (Band)

Zinc is an Australian pop band.

Band History

Zinc consists of brothers Mark O'Shea and John O'Shea and their friend Adam Ray who share vocal duties. Mark O'Shea was working as a vocalist in Sydney in the late 1990's when he travelled to New Caledonia for a holiday. He met up with Adam Ray who was working for Club Med in Noumea as an entertainer and the two became friends. The two kept up and joined together when Ray returned to Sydney and John O'Shea travelled down from Queensland to join them. Zinc recorded demo tracks to send around to record companies. The band signed with Warner Music and went to Los Angeles to record their first album in 2002 with Charles Fisher who has also produced Radio Birdman, Air Supply and Savage Garden. The band had 100 songs for consideration for the album as they are all songwriters and have worked with Mark Seymour, formerly of Hunters and Collectors, and Charlie Midnight who has written for James Brown. During the 18 months that it took to complete the album, the trio did session work in Los Angeles including on an album by Ringo Starr and a Christmas song by Steven Tyler of Aerosmith. After the completion of the album, Zinc returned to Australia where they started performing live. They played support on Australian tours by Shannon Noll and Human Nature. The bands first single "The Morning After" was released on June 28 2004 and debuted at #22 on the Australian singles charts on July 5 2004.
