Zeltweg Airfield

Zeltweg Airfield was a military airfield in Styria (state), Austria near Zeltweg. It was used as a a 1.988-mile race track built for a single Formula 1 Grand Prix, which took place in 1964. Built in 1959 in Styria, the idea for the track came from Great Britain's success at Silverstone Circuit, also built on the site of an airfield. However, the track enginieers at Zeltweg failed to take into account the abrasive nature of the surface. The 1964 event was Formula One's only foray to the site for the Austrian Grand Prix. Later races were held at the sterreichring.
