Zaza
The
Zaza
are Kurds from Northern Kurdistan in eastern
Anatolia
(
Turkey
). Their language,
Dimli
or
Zazaki
, is Northern Kurdish group of languages which also include Kurmanji and is closely related to Hawrami which is also another form of
Kurdish language
. For this reason, the Zaza are often referred to as a subgroup of the Kurds. Until recently, Turkish authorities banned the public use of Dimli/Zazaki, and they have tended to use the words
Zaza
and
Zazaki
as pejoratives, leading to an increased preference for the term
Dimli
among the ethnic group themselves.
Zaza
is also a name that appears
