Yun

Yun is ninth most common family name in Korea. The name is sometimes also transliterated as Yoon. It is one of the few names that has a "surname character" assigned to it - i.e. the character only has the definition "surname" while used in Korea and is only used to denote the surname. The Papyong Yun clan is the most noble clan in the surname; several of Papyong Yun women have become queens. The Clan's founding ancestor is General Yun Shin Dal. Famous Koreans with this family name: Yn (云) is also an abbreviation for the Chinese province of Yunnan.
