Yau Ma Tei

Yau Ma Tei (油麻地)(alternatively, Yau Ma Ti or Yaumati) is an area in Yau Tsim Mong district, in the south of the Kowloon peninsula in Hong Kong. The district is mainly a area of mixed residential and retail. Every night there is a market selling many different kinds of products including clothes, decorations, VCD and toys in Temple Street (廟街), a street in the area where the famous Tin Hau Temple was built in 1876. The Kwong Wah Hospital (廣華醫院), the first hospital on the Kowloon peninsula established in 1911, is located in the district. Yau Ma Tei is served by Tsuen Wan and Kwun Tong lines on the MTR metro system, at a single station with the same name. The station is the western terminus of the Kwun Tong Line. See Yau Ma Tei Station for details. It is proposed that Yau Ma Tei will no longer be the terminus of the line as there will be two new stations, Ho Man Tin and Whampoa, on the plan of Kwun Tong Line extension. Nathan Road also has a part in Yau Ma Tei. The Wah Yan College, Kowloon is located in Yau Ma Tei.
