Yared Tesfaye

Yared Tesfaye Musician living in Toronto from Ethiopia.Yared Started playing base with his first band the "Nile Band" in 1970.He grew up singing in a church choir both in traditional Ethiopian church"Ge-ez"He is also trained in the latin church music.He learned music from child hood at home with his mother and his sisters and school.Yared has worked with many bands in the 1980 as a back up singer for different bands mainly Salsa music from Haiti,Marinique...He formed a Canadian band with friends from Toronto Holland Italy Bahamas ...under the name "mother Tongue"The band has been nominated twice for Canadian Juno.Due to another band from U.S with the same name Sony threatened Yared to change it's name because one immigrant can not fight with big music industry he settled with the name "Ashkaru"meaning let it be.Yared stopped the music business in 1996 but continued his musician ship working with different cultures.Yared has written a book under the title "To all the bastards I love"based on true experience as well as tracing Ethiopian music back to the 6th centuary.Yared plays washint(Ethiopian Flute,Imbira,Kirar.Djembay,guitar)He will be out Solo in the summer 2005.
