Yamatsuka Eye

Yamatsuka Eye is a Japanese vocalist. He is founder of the influential noise band, Boredoms, whose first major label release came out in the early '90s. They had been operating since early 1986 but had had only limited sucess in their native Japan. Their wildly varied output is notoriously difficult to pidgeonhole, but is usually referred to as noise rock. Boredoms tend to offer sudden and drastic shifts in tempo, genre and mood. Singer Yamatsuka Eye is the closest they have to a front man; his output includes a range of baffling screams, babbling, electronic effects and very heavy post-production. Yamatsuka Eye was also a member of the bands Hanatarash, UFO or Die, Puzzle Punks, and Destroy 2. He has recorded with Sonic Youth (1993) for Thurston Moore's label, Ecstatic Peace. Other notable collaborations include his work with Bill Laswell's Praxis, top sound experimenter Otomo Yoshihide, with John Zorn's Painkiller and with Zorn's Naked City. It is also to be noted that Yamatsuka Eye has changed his name three times, from Yamatsuka Eye, to Yamantaka Eye, to Yamataka Eye, and sometimes calls himself eYe.
