Yamashiro Province
Yamashiro province
(山城国; -no kuni) is an
old province
of Japan, which today composes the southern part of
Kyoto prefecture
. Including
Kyoto
itself, since
794
Yamashiro was the seat of the imperial court, and, during the
Muromachi period
, the seat of the
shogun
as well.
