Yallaroi Shire is a local government area in the Australian State of New South Wales. It is located in the north-western region of New South Wales.

Census 2001 Statistics

Population: On Census Night, 7 August 2001, there were 3129 people (1616 males and 1513 females) counted in Yallaroi Shire. This represents a decrease of 3.0% since the 1996 Census, and a decrease of 11.6% since the 1991 Census. Of those people counted on Census Night, 95.7% were counted at home. Yallaroi Shire has an area of 5340 square kilometres, giving a population density of 0.59 people per square kilometre. Indigenous Origin: There were 47 people (1.5%) who identified as being of Indigenous origin in the 2001 Census. Median Age: The median age of people in the 2001 Census was 38 years. Country Of Birth: The number of people born overseas in the 2001 Census was 108 (3.5%). Of those born overseas, the three main countries of birth in the 2001 Census were: United Kingdom: 39 (1.2%)
New Zealand: 17 (0.5%) and
Germany: 9 (0.3%). Ancestry: In the 2001 Census, the three most common ancestries identified with were: Australian: 1724 people (55.1%)
English: 1133 people (36.2%) and
Irish: 280 people (9.0%). Language: English was stated as the only language spoken at home by 2960 people (94.7%) in the 2001 Census. The three most common languages spoken at home other than English in the 2001 Census were: Arabic (including Lebanese): 3 (0.1%) Chinese languages: 3 (0.1%) and; Italian: 3 (0.1%). Computer Usage: In the week preceding the 2001 Census, 975 people (31.2%) had used a personal computer at home. The total number of persons who had used the Internet in the week preceding the 2001 Census was 643. There were 88 people (2.8%) who had used the Internet at work only, 366 people (11.7%) who had used the internet at home only and 88 people (2.8%) who had used the internet elsewhere only. Marital Status: In the 2001 Census, there were 1424 married people (59.6%), 73 separated people (3.1%), 134 divorced people (5.6%), 171 widowed people (7.2%) and 586 people who had never been married (24.5%). Education: In the 2001 Census, 22 (0.9%) people held a postgraduate degree, graduate diploma or graduate certificate; 109 (4.6%) people held a bachelor degree; 410 (17.2%) people with an advanced diploma, diploma or certificate; and 1839 (77.3%) people did not have a qualification. Unemployment: In the 2001 Census, 93 people were unemployed, representing 6.7% of the labour force. The labour force participation rate was 70.1%. Industry Of Employment: In the 2001 Census, 53 (4.1%) people were employed in the Manufacturing industry; 58 (4.4%) people employed in the Construction industry; 90 (6.9%) people employed in the Retail Trade industry; 58 (4.4%) people were employed in the Property and Business Services industry; 91 (7.0%) people employed in the Education industry; and 71 (5.4%) people employed in the Health and Community Services industry. Income: The median weekly individual income for people aged 15 years and over in the 2001 Census was $200-$299. Journey To Work: On Census day, 7 August 2001, 0 (0.0%) people travelled to work by train only, 4 (0.3%) people took the bus only and 0 (0.0%) people took both the train and bus. There were 587 (45.4%) people who travelled to work by car, either as the driver or as a passenger and 127 (9.8%) people either rode a bike or walked to work. Families: In the 2001 Census, there were 421 couple families with children (which comprised 47.1% of all families in occupied private dwellings), 365 couple families without children (40.9%), 98 one parent families (11.0%) and 9 other families (1.0%). There were 23 people (0.8%) in group households and 260 people (8.6%) in lone person households in the 2001 Census.
   
Dwellings: In the 2001 Census, there were 1145 separate houses (94.7%), 0 semi detached, row or terrace houses and townhouses (0.0%), 24 flats, units or apartments (2.0%) and 33 other dwellings (2.7%). Of all occupied private dwellings in the 2001 Census, 820 were either fully owned or being purchased, which represents (68.0%) of all occupied private dwellings, while 194 (16.1%) were being rented.
