X11vnc
In
computing
,
x11vnc
is a program to allow remote access to an existing
X server
session via
VNC
. It works by continuously polling the X server's frame buffer for changes. x11vnc is part of the
LibVNCServer
project and is
free software
available under the
GNU General Public License
. x11vnc was written by Karl Runge, from frustration with
x0rfbserver
, an older application of similar functionality but lesser portability. There are many programs of similar functionality; they are sometimes collectively called
VNC :0 viewers
http://www.realvnc.com/pipermail/vnc-list/2004-September/047055.html
. Other examples include the
x4vnc
module from
XFree86
version 4,
x0vncserver
from
RealVNC
http://www.realvnc.com/v4/x0.html
,
gemsvnc
http://www.elilabs.com/~rj/gemsvnc/
and the "Remote Desktop Sharing" functionality in
KDE
.
