Wwe Smackdown (Game)

WWE Smackdown! (formerly WWF Smackdown!) is a series of professional wrestling video games for Sony PlayStation and PlayStation 2. The name comes from World Wrestling Entertainment's weekly Thursday night wrestling showcase. There have been five installments released, two for PSOne, and three for PS2, as well as a sixth installment to be released in the fourth quarter of 2004. They are published by THQ and Designed by Yuke's

WWF Smackdown!

The first installment of the game was released in the United States February 29, 2000 for PlayStation. Later, on August 3, 2000, it was released in Japan as Exciting Pro Wrestling. In Europe, it was released March 9, 2001.

WWF Smackdown! 2: Know Your Role

The second installment was released in the U.S. on November 19, 2000, and later in Japan, as Exciting Pro Wrestling 2, on January 25, 2001.

WWF Smackdown! Just Bring It

The first American wrestling release for PlayStation 2 was Just Bring It, on November 18, 2001. This game is widely perceived by the gaming community as a blunder, due to its large use of Memory Card space, and its horrible Season Mode, which was repetitive and short. It came out January 24, 2002 in Japan, as Exciting Pro Wrestling 3.

WWE Smackdown! Shut Your Mouth

The fourth installment of Smackdown! was the first released after the WWF changed their name to World Wrestling Entertainment, hence the WWE. It came out on Halloween, October 31, 2002 in the States, November 15, 2002 in Europe, and February 6, 2003 in Japan, as Exciting Pro Wrestling 4.

WWE Smackdown! Here Comes the Pain

The fifth installment, considered by some gamers as the best American-produced wrestling game of all time, and others consider it the best wrestling game, period. It was released October 27, 2003 Stateside, November 7, 2003 in Europe, and January 29, 2004 in Japan, as Exciting Pro Wrestling 5. On some Internet message boards, gamers complained about a "grinding noise" that occurred during play of the game, which eventually led to scratching of other game disks, and eventually, forcible replacement, or repair of the PlayStation 2.

WWE Smackdown! vs. RAW

The sixth installment, and rumored to be the last WWE release for the PlayStation 2, is Smackdown! vs. RAW, which will seemingly follow the WWE's brand extension storyline. Currently confirmed features include a highly increased polygon count for characters, a "Create-a-PPV" mode, a "Create-a-Belt" mode, the "Parking Lot Brawl", and a widely-disappointing smaller roster of roughly 45 wrestlers, however, the lack of current superstars is countered by the increased amount of legends, including Mick Foley, and The Rock. The game's scheduled release date is November 9, 2004.
