Wsb-tvWSB-TV channel 2 (DTV 39) is a major Atlanta TV station. It is owned by Cox Television, with Cox Radio also owning WSB-FM and WSB AM in Atlanta, and Cox Newspapers owning the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Its transmitter is located in Atlanta, which is also its city of license. History In 1948, WSB-TV was the first TV station in the South, going on the air on September 29th. Originally on channel 8, it later swapped with what is now WGTV. In 1955, both AM and TV moved into White Columns, where they remained until a modern new facility was built next door in 1998. Both are located along Atlanta's famed Peachtree Street. WSB-DT went on the air on April 17 (just before the move), making it one of the first regular-service DTV stations in the country. It has been an ABC affiliate since the beginning of 1981. Until the end of 1980, it was NBC, and the exact opposite is true of WXIA-TV 11. The station recently has the highest Nielsen ratings of any TV station in the Atlanta area. News WSB-TV has its own newscasts at 5-7AM, noon to 1PM, 5-7PM, and at 11PM. It also provides a few minutes of news to local cable TV viewers of CNN's Headline News at the end of each half-hour during the daytime, and now in 2005 to video monitors on MARTA trains and buses. Long-time newscasters Monica Kaufman and John Pruitt, and meteorologist Glenn Burns are well-known in metro Atlanta. External links
