wpze (fm)

WPZE FM ("Praise 97.5") is an Atlanta radio station that plays gospel music. Until the fall of 2001, it was hip-hop and R&B "Hot 97.5". Then in late 2001, owner Radio One moved the radio format and the WHTA callsign to 107.9 (bought and moved from former WPEZ FM, "EZ108" in Macon) as "Hot 107.9", and 97.5 became gospel "Praise 97.5". The move was originally planned to be to the new 107.5 (originally WAMJ FM "Magic 107.5", now swapped to 102.5 for WJZZ-FM) until the FCC approved the transfer and reallotment of WPEZ FM nearer to south metro Atlanta. All of the involved stations are owned or LMAed by Radio One.
