World Chess Federation

The World Chess Federation, Inc.(WCF)(not to be confused with FIDE, the International Chess Federation,is headquartered in Las Vegas, Nevada. It holds the international tradename rights to the phrase "The World Chess Championship" as used in the 1992 Fischer-Spassky match. Fischer held the title until 1999 at which time he publicly announced his retirement. To fill the vacancy, the US affiliate of the WCF, the American Chess Association's US Champion at the time, Stan Vaughan, in late 2000 became the WCF human champion and the WCF computer world champion is CraftyWiz. The World Chess Championships are held every 4 years In 2004 no one challenged CraftyWiz, and no challenger with sufficient financial backing challenged the human champion, who had $150,000 in financial backing to defend the human title.
