Worker-communist Party Of Iran

The Worker-Communist Party of Iran (Persian: حزب کمونیست کارگران ایران) is an opposition Iranian political party in exile. It is led by Koorosh Modaresi. The Worker-Communist Party was founded by Mansoor Hekmat in 1991 as a split from the Communist Party of Iran. The party attracted the support of communists in Iraq, who formed the Worker-Communist Party of Iraq. It is known for stressing the anti-religious (especially anti-Islamic) component of Marxist ideology. The party suffered a major split in 2004, with the group representing the majority of the central committee splitting away, naming itself the Worker-Communist Party of Iran - Hekmatist, attracting the support of the Iraqi group. The WCPIran maintains a television station, a regular press, and the symbolically important support of Azar Majedi, Hekmat's widow. The Leftist Worker-Communist Party of Iraq, a split from the Iraqi group, supports the WCPIran.
