Woodenbong

Woodenbong is a town of approximately 600 persons in northern New South Wales, Australia. It is 10 km south of the Queensland border. It is situated 5 kilometres south of the junction of the Summerland Way and the Mount Lindesay Road, which leads to Tenterfield. It is 798 km north-east of Sydney, 145 km from Brisbane and 55 km north-east of Kyogle. The name is derived from an Australian Aboriginal word meaning wood ducks on water. Dairy farming and cattle grazing are the two largest industries. It is a very picturesque town, being nestled among mountains and valleys. Woodenbong is also the gateway to many National Parks including in New South Wales: In Queensland: It is interesting to note that some of these National Parks are declared World Heritage areas.
