Wofford College

Wofford College is a liberal arts college located in Spartanburg, South Carolina. Wofford College was founded in 1854 with money bequeathed after the death of Benjamin Wofford, the school's namesake. Wofford College is one of the few four-year institutions in the Southern United States that was founded before the American Civil War that is still operating and located on its original campus. Wofford's many academic credentials include having an average SAT score of 1274, which is higher than their enrollment of 1,100 and being one of only five independent colleges and universities to have a Phi Beta Kappa chapter in the Carolinas (Davidson, Duke, Furman and Wake Forest are the others). Wofford's colors are black and old gold and their nickname is the Terriers. Wofford sports teams participate in NCAA Division I (I-AA for football) in the Southern Conference.
