Geography Wishek is located at 46°15'27" North, 99°33'25" West (46.257606, -99.557047). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 3.8 km² (1.5 mi²). 3.8 km² (1.5 mi²) of it is land and 0.68% is water. Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 1,122 people, 466 households, and 290 families residing in the city. The population density is 298.8/km² (772.1/mi²). There are 532 housing units at an average density of 141.7/km² (366.1/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 98.84% White, 0.00% African American, 0.18% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.09% Pacific Islander, 0.09% from other races, and 0.80% from two or more races. 1.52% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 466 households out of which 24.2% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 57.5% are married couples living together, 3.2% have a female householder with no husband present, and 37.6% are non-families. 35.0% of all households are made up of individuals and 23.0% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.15 and the average family size is 2.77. In the city the population is spread out with 18.2% under the age of 18, 5.0% from 18 to 24, 18.4% from 25 to 44, 19.8% from 45 to 64, and 38.6% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 54 years. For every 100 females there are 82.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 81.1 males. The median income for a household in the city is $30,208, and the median income for a family is $36,696. Males have a median income of $25,441 versus $17,875 for females.
