Wireless Energy Transfer

Wireless energy transfer is wireless transfer of electromagnetic energy via electromagnetic induction. It is used in various devices, such as the transcutaneous energy transfer (TET) systems in artificial hearts like AbioCor. TET systems work by transmitting electromagnetic energy through the skin from an external power source by running a large AC current through an external coil to generate a magnetic flux. The changing magnetic flux causes an internal coil to induce a current. The founding principles and inventions of wireless technology can be found in the lectures and patent record of the electrical engineer Nikola Tesla and in his 1916 deposition on the history of wireless and radio technology: Nikola Telsa On His Work With Alternating Currents And Their Application to Wireless Telegraphy, Telephony, and Transmission of Power, Anderson, Leland, ed., Published 1992, Twenty First Century Books (ISBN 1893817016). The building of a global wireless energy distribution system called the Wardenclyffe Tower was started almost a century ago by Nikola Tesla but was abandoned because of lack of funds.
