Wincenty Witos
Wincenty Witos
(
1874
-
1945
) was leader of the
Polish Peasant Party
and periodically
premier
of
Poland
during the early
1920s
. In
1926
, his government was overthrown by an armed
May coup d'etat
led by
Jozef Pilsudski
. Witos was then imprisoned but escaped to
Czechoslovakia
only to be imprisoned again in
1939
by the invading
Germans
.
