Willy Voet

Willy Voet is a sports physiotherapist who was involved in a high-profile doping scandal. On July 8, 1998, a major scandal erupted when French Customs arrested Willy Voet, thne health assistant of the Festina cycling team, whose lead competitor was Richard Virenque, for the possession of illegal quantities of prescription drugs and narcotics, including erythropoietin (EPO), growth hormones, testosterone and amphetamines. This was the beginning of the Festina scandal. In 2000, Voet went on trial for his actions. Willy Voet wrote a book, Massacre la Chane ("Chain massacre"), in which he exposed what he knew of the doping practices of the cycling world.
