History Williamsburg was first settled in 1735 and was officially incorporated in 1775. Geography According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 66.6 km² (25.7 mi²). 66.4 km² (25.6 mi²) of it is land and 0.2 km² (0.1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.35% water. The town also includes the villages of Haydenville and Searsville Demographics As of the census2 of 2000, there are 2,427 people, 1,027 households, and 658 families residing in the town. The population density is 36.6/km² (94.7/mi²). There are 1,073 housing units at an average density of 16.2/km² (41.9/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 97.94% White, 0.25% African American, 0.08% Native American, 0.49% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.16% from other races, and 1.07% from two or more races. 0.66% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 1,027 households out of which 29.4% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.7% are married couples living together, 8.8% have a female householder with no husband present, and 35.9% are non-families. 25.1% of all households are made up of individuals and 9.1% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.36 and the average family size is 2.88. In the town the population is spread out with 21.3% under the age of 18, 5.0% from 18 to 24, 29.4% from 25 to 44, 31.4% from 45 to 64, and 12.9% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 42 years. For every 100 females there are 89.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 89.2 males. The median income for a household in the town is $47,250, and the median income for a family is $55,833. Males have a median income of $36,977 versus $28,906 for females.
