William Sampson (Suspect)

William Sampson is a Canadian who was arrested December 16, 2000 in Saudi Arabia. He was one of seven people of various nationalities arrested on suspicion of being involved in a car bomb that killed a British man in Saudi Arabia. He was tortured and confessed to the crime on television. He was not allowed access to an attorney until the summer of 2002, after the confession was broadcast on Saudi television. He was released August 8, 2003 and sent back to Canada after retracting his confession. On October 28, 2004, Sampson along with Britons Sandy Mitchell and Les Walker won a legal battle in London, England that allows them to sue the men in Saudi Arabia they say tortured them into giving false confessions.
