William Daniel Phillips

William Daniel Phillips (born November 5, 1948) is an American physicist. He won the 1997 Nobel Prize in Physics (together with Claude Cohen-Tannoudji and Steven Chu) for his development of Doppler cooling at NIST. He is also a professor of physics at University of Maryland, College Park.
