Will ElderWilliam Elder (born 1921) is a comic book artist. Elder first came to the public's attention through his work on EC Comics's Mad Magazine. Along with Wally Wood, Elder could ape practically any style he needed to make the parodies in Mad work. Elder was also well known for the hundreds of sight gags he would cram into each page of the humor stories he produced. He frequently worked with Harvey Kurtzman. After leaving Mad Magazine they worked together on a string of short lived humor magazines. Trump, Humbug, and Help. In Help Magazine, Elder did a parody of Archie Comics for their Goodman Beaver strip that resulted in a lawsuit that prohibited it from ever being reprinted. The parody is considered by many to be Elder and Kurtzman's greatest collaboration. The series was reprinted by Kitchen Sink Press with each panel expanded to page size so the readers could see all the little gags. In the 1960s, Elder and Kurtzman worked for Playboy Magazine on Little Annie Fanny. The series followed the adventures of a busty blonde as everything in sight was parodied. The strip was recently collected by Dark Horse Comics in two volumes. A career retrospective titled Will Elder: The MAD Playboy of Art (ISBN 1560976039) was published by Fantagraphics Books in 2004.
