Wilhelm Of Prussia Crown Prince Wilhelm of Germany Crown Prince Wilhelm of Prussia (1882-1951) was son to Kaiser Wilhelm II of Germany. He had received little command experience when he was given charge of the Fifth army in August 1914, shortly after the outbreak of World War I. After a quick victory in Ardennes his millitary reputation rose. During the remainder of the war he served on the western front. While on the Western front he notably headed the Verdun offensive against the French in February 1916. Despite a German victory in May 1918, Wilhelm realized that defeat was just a matter of time. In late 1918 he resigened from the army and left Germany in exile. He followed his father to Doorn, Holland on November 12, 1918. He returned to Germany in November 1923 after he had assured Chancellor Gustav Stresemann that he would not participate in any political affairs. He lived out the rest of his life as a private citzen, even though Hitler had sought to have him endorse his Nazi Party. Crown Prince Wilhelm died on July 20, 1951 of a heart attack in Hechingen.
