Wildwood, Lady Lake, Withlacoochee And Gulf RailwayFlorida state law chapter 3656, approved February 16, 1885, incorporated the Wildwood, Lady Lake, Withlacoochee and Gulf Railway Company, owned by J. W. Fleming of Floral City, Florida, S. A. Curry of Withlacoochee, Florida, Robert Bullock of Ocala, Florida, S. W. Teague of Lady Lake, Florida, and J. E. Barwick and T. C. Carter of Wildwood, Florida, - for the purpose of constructing, maintaining and operating a narrow gauge railroad for public use in the conveyance of persons and property in the State of Florida; said railroad is designed to begin at Lady Lake, in Sumter county, and run thence to Wildwood, a distance of seven and one-half (7 1/2) miles, thence to Withlacoochee river, a distance of ten (10) miles, thence to Floral City, on Chal Apopka Lake, in Hernando county, a distance of about ten (10) miles, thence to the most eligible point on the Gulf Coast as may be determined by a survey, a distance of fifteen to twenty miles. The privilege of an extension from Lady Lake to Lake Griffin, on the Ocklawaha river, is also claimed and reserved.
The railroad was promised land grants along its line.
