Geography Whitewright is located at 33°30'40" North, 96°23'36" West (33.511136, -96.393400). According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 5.5 km² (2.1 mi²). 5.4 km² (2.1 mi²) of it is land and 0.47% is water. Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 1,740 people, 650 households, and 456 families residing in the town. The population density is 319.9/km² (830.0/mi²). There are 732 housing units at an average density of 134.6/km² (349.2/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 87.36% White, 8.33% African American, 0.57% Native American, 0.92% Asian, 0.06% Pacific Islander, 0.86% from other races, and 1.90% from two or more races. 2.64% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 650 households out of which 33.2% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.3% are married couples living together, 11.8% have a female householder with no husband present, and 29.8% are non-families. 26.3% of all households are made up of individuals and 12.9% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.52 and the average family size is 3.04. In the town the population is spread out with 26.2% under the age of 18, 6.4% from 18 to 24, 26.3% from 25 to 44, 20.6% from 45 to 64, and 20.5% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 39 years. For every 100 females there are 83.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 78.8 males. The median income for a household in the town is $33,194, and the median income for a family is $42,292. Males have a median income of $31,852 versus $22,639 for females. The per capita income for the town is $16,137. 12.5% of the population and 7.9% of families are below the poverty line.
