Geography Whitesville is located at 37°58'53" North, 81°32'3" West (37.981297, -81.534055). According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 1.1 km² (0.4 mi²). 1.1 km² (0.4 mi²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water. Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 520 people, 255 households, and 139 families residing in the town. The population density is 478.0/km² (1,244.7/mi²). There are 346 housing units at an average density of 318.1/km² (828.2/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 99.23% White, 0.19% African American, 0.19% Native American, 0.19% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 0.19% from two or more races. 0.38% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 255 households out of which 18.0% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 38.0% are married couples living together, 12.5% have a female householder with no husband present, and 45.1% are non-families. 42.4% of all households are made up of individuals and 21.2% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.04 and the average family size is 2.75. In the town the population is spread out with 17.3% under the age of 18, 11.3% from 18 to 24, 21.3% from 25 to 44, 27.7% from 45 to 64, and 22.3% who are 65 years of age or older.
