White Oleander

White Oleander is a 2002 motion picture that tells a story of a mother and her daughter and their relationship. It is based on a best-seller novel by Janet Finch. The book was a selection by Oprah's Book Club. The film is a coming-of-age story about a child in foster care dealing with her separation from her mother and a series of additional traumas. It is both tragic and celebratory in its depiction of Astrid's treatment and resilience. The film is directed by Peter Kosminsky and stars Alison Lohman, Michelle Pfeiffer, Robin Wright Penn, and Rene Zellweger. The running time is 110 minutes.
