Whitby, a large north-eastern harbourside suburb of Porirua City, New Zealand, was comprehensively planned in the 1960s (when still in Hutt County) and is now substantially developed. Suburb, neighbourhood, and street names have a nautical theme centred on Pacific explorer James Cook. Whitby hosts a new private secondary school from 2004.
