Wftc
WFTC
channel 29 (21
digital
) is a
television station
broadcasting to the
Minneapolis-St. Paul
metropolitan area
, serving
Minnesota
and western
Wisconsin
. It has been on the air since
1982
, when the station first signed on as
WFBT
, a
Christian
station airing family-oriented programming consisting of classic reruns and religious programming. WFBT (Family Bible Television) was sold to secular concerns in
1984
, and became
KITN
. For most of its existence, from the mid-
1980s
until late
2001
, the station was a
Fox
affiliate. This even led to the
call sign
change in
1994
, which stood for "We're Fox Twin Cities". When the station merged operations with KMSP channel 9, the two stations swapped affiliations. Channel 9 is now a Fox affiliate and 29 is part of the
United Paramount Network
(UPN). The station had been owned by
Clear Channel Communications
for a time up until 2001. It is now owned by Fox parent
News Corporation
along with KMSP. WFTC's transmitter is co-located on KMSP's tower in
Shoreview, Minnesota
.
