Westpac Stadium

Westpac Stadium (also known as Westpac Trust Stadium or, more colloquially, The Cake-tin because of its shape) is a major sporting venue in Wellington, New Zealand. Situated close to major transport facilities one kilometre north of the citys CBD, the stadium is a multi-use facility, though used mainly for rugby union and one-day cricket. It is the home of the Wellington NPC and Super 12 teams. The stadium was built in 1999 on former railway land and has a capacity of 33,500. It was built to replace Athletic Park, the citys old rugby stadium, which had fallen into disrepair and was poorly situated for the demands of modern sport. The new stadium is regarded by many as the best in New Zealand. ''NB: Westpac Stadium should not be confused with Westpac Trust Park, a major sporting venue in Hamilton, New Zealand''
