Westmannia RegimentWestmannia Regiment, or Vstmanlands regemente, also I 18, is a Swedish Army infantry regiment that traces its origins back to the 16th Century. It was disbanded in 1997. History The regiment has its origins in the fnikor raised in the 1550s and 1560s. In 1617, these smaller units where organized into the Uplandia Grand Regiment, and in 1623, this grand regiment was spilt into three regiments, one of those being the Westmannia Regiment. The regiment's soldiers were conscripted from the province of Westmannia. It was one of the original 20 Swedish infantry regiments mentioned in the Swedish constitution of 1634. The regiment was officially raised in 1628. The regiment's first commander was Bengt Bagge. Westmannia Regiment was tenemented in 1682 and was given the designation I 18 (18th Infantry Regiment) after a general order in 1816. It was garrisoned in Vsters and first disbanded in 1927 but reorganized in 1994, although disbanded again just three years later in 1997. Campaigns Organization 1634(?) - Livkompaniet
