Westholme SchoolWestholme school, is a mixed-sex selective private school located in Blackburn, England. There are 4 separate departments of the school which cater students from nursery to sixth form. Each 'school' has a specific gender and age of students. The four different departments are: - Upper School - Wilmar Lodge For Girls Aged 11-18, this school also incorprates the School's Sixth Form
- Middle School - Beardwood Bank For Girls Aged 7-11
- Boy's School - Derrian House For Boys Aged 7-11 Opened 2003
- Lower School - Billinge House For Girls and Boys Aged 3-7, this school also incorprates the School's Nursery School
Westholme is one of two independent fee-paying schools in Blackburn, the other being Queen Elizabeth's Grammar School (QEGS). Both Westholme and QEGS were formerly single-sex girl and boys schools, respectively. Westholme followed QEGS move to mixed-sex status in 2003. The school is part of the Manchester Consortium for the controversial eleven plus exam http://www.westholmeschool.com/information/info_admissions.html. Westholme students enter national competions in fields such as Physics, Biology and Mathematics. Many students continue with their education at leading UK universities, including Oxbridge.
