Western Wireless Corporation

Western Wireless is a wireless telecommunications (i.e. cellular) provider in the western United States that specializes in rural cellular service. Western Wireless primarily operates under the Cellular One brand. It has offices in Bellevue, Washington and Amarillo, Texas. They provide cellular services in 19 states in the western, midwestern, and southwestern U.S. On January 10, 2005, Little Rock, Arkansas based telecommunications provider ALLTEL announced it would buy Western Wireless in a $6 billion stock-and-cash transaction. Pending approval by Western Wireless shareholders and regulatory authorities, the merger is expected to close in mid-2005.
