Western Standard

The Western Standard is Western Canada's leading news magazine. It was founded in 2004 by politician and lawyer Ezra Levant as a sequel publication to the Alberta Report, which went out of business in June 2003. The magazine was launched under the banner "The Independent Voice of the New West" and quickly gained notoriety among the Canadian political and media community for its brash, outspoken approach to social and political issues. Noted columnists in the Western Standard have included Ted Byfield, who founded the Alberta Report in 1979, Mark Steyn, Colby Cosh and David Warren. Kevin Libin is the magazine's founding editor. The Western Standard has been accused of having a pro-conservative bias but its publisher, Levant, has maintained that the news coverage is fair and balanced.
