Western Democracy Party

The Western Democracy Party was a short-lived political party in Manitoba, Canada. In October 1979, two candidates stood for the party in Winnipeg-area by-elections for the Manitoba legislature. William Hawryluk (who was probably the party's leader) received 19 votes in Fort Rouge, and Linda J. Penner received 39 votes in Rossmere. It is not entirely clear what ideology the party represented, although Hawryluk was previously a candidate of the Social Credit Party, and later promoted a fiscally conservative agenda as a fringe candidate for Mayor of Winnipeg.
