West Union, West VirginiaWest Union is a town located in Doddridge County, West Virginia. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 806. It is the county seat of Doddridge County. Geography West Union is located at 39°17'44" North, 80°46'33" West (39.295594, -80.775888). According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 1.0 km² (0.4 mi²). 1.0 km² (0.4 mi²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water. Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 806 people, 345 households, and 219 families residing in the town. The population density is 841.1/km² (2,197.3/mi²). There are 420 housing units at an average density of 438.3/km² (1,145.0/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 99.50% White, 0.00% African American, 0.00% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.50% from other races, and 0.00% from two or more races. 0.50% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 345 households out of which 28.1% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 47.8% are married couples living together, 12.2% have a female householder with no husband present, and 36.5% are non-families. 33.3% of all households are made up of individuals and 19.7% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.34 and the average family size is 2.90. In the town the population is spread out with 23.1% under the age of 18, 7.4% from 18 to 24, 23.0% from 25 to 44, 22.8% from 45 to 64, and 23.7% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 43 years. For every 100 females there are 80.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 79.7 males. The median income for a household in the town is $18,300, and the median income for a family is $21,875. Males have a median income of $25,000 versus $19,688 for females.
