West Side Highway, WashingtonWest Side Highway is a census designated place (CDP) in Cowlitz County, Washington, named after a state highway running north-south between Longview and Kelso. The CDP includes the community of Lexington. As of the 2000 census, the CDP had a total population of 4,565. Geography Side Highway is located at 46°11'9" North, 122°54'56" West (46.185921, -122.915505). According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 6.9 km² (2.7 mi²). 6.5 km² (2.5 mi²) of it is land and 0.4 km² (0.2 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 6.01% water. Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 4,565 people, 1,635 households, and 1,291 families residing in the CDP. The population density is 705.0/km² (1,828.0/mi²). There are 1,715 housing units at an average density of 264.9/km² (686.8/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP is 94.22% White, 1.23% Native American, 1.12% Asian, 0.26% African American, 0% Pacific Islander, 0.81% from other races, and 2.37% from two or more races. 1.99% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 1,635 households out of which 38.7% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 65.4% are married couples living together, 8.8% have a female householder with no husband present, and 21.0% are non-families. 16.8% of all households are made up of individuals and 6.8% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.74 and the average family size is 3.04. In the CDP the population is spread out with 28.6% under the age of 18, 7.2% from 18 to 24, 28.3% from 25 to 44, 21.6% from 45 to 64, and 14.3% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 35 years. For every 100 females there are 95.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 92.2 males. The median income for a household in the CDP is $46,604, and the median income for a family is $55,598. Males have a median income of $44,758 versus $24,545 for females. The per capita income for the CDP is $18,790. 12.2% of the population and 11.5% of families are below the poverty line.
