West Siberian Plain
The
West Siberian Plain
(
Russian
: За́падно-Сиби́рская равни́на) is a large
plain
that occupies the western portion of
Siberia
, between the
Ural Mountains
in the west and the
Yenisei River
in the east. Its area is about 3 million
km²
; it extends from north to south for 2,500 km, and from west to east for 1,900 km. Principal rivers are
Ob
,
Irtysh
and
Yenisei
. There are also many
lakes
and
swamps
. Vegetation: in the north there is
tundra
, in the middle
taiga
, and in the south
steppes
. There are large resources of
petroleum
and
natural gas
.
