West End-cobb Town, AlabamaWest End-Cobb Town is an unincorporated census-designated place located in Calhoun County, Alabama. As of the 2000 census, the population of the community is 3,924. Geography West End-Cobb Town is located at 33°39'3" North, 85°52'10" West (33.650903, -85.869487). According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the community has a total area of 10.7 km² (4.1 mi²). 10.7 km² (4.1 mi²) of it is land and none of it is covered by water. Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 3,924 people, 1,646 households, and 1,120 families residing in the community. The population density is 367.7/km² (951.5/mi²). There are 1,861 housing units at an average density of 174.4/km² (451.3/mi²). The racial makeup of the community is 77.70% White, 20.01% Black or African American, 0.61% Native American, 0.05% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 0.31% from other races, and 1.30% from two or more races. 0.89% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 1,646 households out of which 24.1% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 45.8% are married couples living together, 17.0% have a female householder with no husband present, and 31.9% are non-families. 29.2% of all households are made up of individuals and 12.8% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.38 and the average family size is 2.91. In the community the population is spread out with 22.8% under the age of 18, 7.5% from 18 to 24, 26.8% from 25 to 44, 25.5% from 45 to 64, and 17.5% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 40 years. For every 100 females there are 90.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 85.2 males. The median income for a household in the community is $22,418, and the median income for a family is $28,544. Males have a median income of $25,955 versus $18,608 for females. The per capita income for the community is $13,067. 18.2% of the population and 15.3% of families are below the poverty line.
