West Concord, Massachusetts

West Concord is a census-designated place and part of the town of Concord in Middlesex County, Massachusetts. As of the 2000 census, West Concord had a total population of 5,632.

Geography

West Concord is located at 42°27'17" North, 71°24'2" West (42.454747, -71.400495). According to the United States Census Bureau, West Concord has a total area of 9.3 km² (3.6 mi²). 8.8 km² (3.4 mi²) of it is land and 0.5 km² (0.2 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 5.01% water.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there are 5,632 people, 1,844 households, and 1,296 families residing in West Concord. The population density is 637.7/km² (1,651.6/mi²). There are 1,914 housing units at an average density of 216.7/km² (561.3/mi²). The racial makeup of West Concord is 83.59% White, 5.82% Black or African American, 0.11% Native American, 3.50% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 5.61% from other races, and 1.35% from two or more races. 6.18% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 1,844 households out of which 34.2% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 59.7% are married couples living together, 8.5% have a female householder with no husband present, and 29.7% are non-families. 25.4% of all households are made up of individuals and 10.4% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.48 and the average family size is 3.00. In West Concord the population is spread out with 20.3% under the age of 18, 6.2% from 18 to 24, 35.3% from 25 to 44, 25.5% from 45 to 64, and 12.8% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 39 years. For every 100 females there are 131.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 142.5 males. The median income for a household in West Concord is $86,096, and the median income for a family is $102,210. Males have a median income of $56,053 versus $50,774 for females. The per capita income for West Concord is $43,271. 3.0% of the population and 1.9% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 1.4% of those under the age of 18 and 5.6% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
