West Bloomfield, New York

West Bloomfield is a town located in Ontario County, New York, USA. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 2,549. The Town of West Bloomfield is on the county's western border.

History

The Town of West Bloomfield was established in 1833 from part of the Town of Bloomfield.

Geography

The west town line is the border of Livingston County, New York, formed by Honeoye Creek. US Route 20 crosses the town. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 66.2 km² (25.5 mi²). 66.1 km² (25.5 mi²) of it is land and 0.1 km² (0.04 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.16% water. West Bloomfield is the second smallest town in the county by area.

Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 2,549 people, 1,013 households, and 729 families residing in the town. The population density is 38.6/km² (99.9/mi²). There are 1,049 housing units at an average density of 15.9/km² (41.1/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 98.27% White, 0.43% African American, 0.31% Native American, 0.12% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.31% from other races, and 0.55% from two or more races. 0.78% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 1,013 households out of which 32.2% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 59.2% are married couples living together, 8.6% have a female householder with no husband present, and 28.0% are non-families. 22.1% of all households are made up of individuals and 8.4% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.52 and the average family size is 2.92. In the town the population is spread out with 24.2% under the age of 18, 6.2% from 18 to 24, 28.6% from 25 to 44, 28.7% from 45 to 64, and 12.3% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 40 years. For every 100 females there are 101.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 97.0 males. The median income for a household in the town is $43,347, and the median income for a family is $52,206. Males have a median income of $37,340 versus $26,410 for females. The per capita income for the town is $20,309. 3.2% of the population and 1.9% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 0.7% of those under the age of 18 and 6.1% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
