After Yue was defeated in 494 BCE, he corrupted Bo Pi in order to make peace with the state of Wu. During King Gou Jian of Yue was in Wu as hostage, he governed Yue. Gou Jian started a reform after his coming back. After the decisive victory against Wu, he was killed by his King Gou Jian, who thought it was dangerous to keep politicians after wartime.
