Weapons Of Mass Deception
Weapons of mass deception
is the term used to describe
George W. Bush
's claim that
Saddam Hussein
possessed
weapons of mass destruction
as justification for the
war on Iraq
by those who hold the suspicion that he did not. The variation
weapons of mass distraction
has also been tossed about by pundits and satirists. This punning alteration represents the assertion that Bush chose to focus on war with Iraq (using flimsy evidence of chemical weapons as an excuse) to draw the nation's attention from more real threats on which he could not successfully wage war and other issues such as the economic recession of 2002 on which the president risked being perceived as vulnerable because of his stance.
