Wavendon

Wavendon is an area of Milton Keynes, in the County of Milton Keynes, England. It is located to the north of the town and is modernly divided into the estates of Wavendon and Wavendon Gate. Wavendon is one of the ancient villages in Buckinghamshire that went into the new development of Milton Keynes in the 1960s. The village name is Anglo Saxon in origin, and means 'Wafa's hill'. In the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle in 969 the village was recorded as Wafandun. The parish of Wavendon anciently contained the hamlet of Woburn Sands, though this is now recognised as a village in its own right, principally because it is not considered part of Milton Keynes.
