Wavendon
Wavendon
is an area of
Milton Keynes
, in the
County of Milton Keynes
,
England
. It is located to the north of the
town
and is modernly divided into the estates of Wavendon and
Wavendon Gate
. Wavendon is one of the ancient
villages
in
Buckinghamshire
that went into the new development of Milton Keynes in the
1960s
. The village name is
Anglo Saxon
in origin, and means 'Wafa's hill'. In the
Anglo-Saxon Chronicle
in
969
the village was recorded as
Wafandun
. The
parish
of Wavendon anciently contained the
hamlet
of
Woburn Sands
, though this is now recognised as a village in its own right, principally because it is not considered part of Milton Keynes.
