Washington-on-the-brazos, Texas
Washington-on-the-Brazos
was a settlement along the
Brazos River
in
Texas
, then part of
Mexico
, which was the site of the
Convention of 1836
and the signing of the
Texas Declaration of Independence
. The settlement was later abandoned and is now a state historic park. The name "Washington-on-the-Brazos" was meant to distinguish the settlement from "
